Extensor Carpi Radialis Muscle: Function, Anatomy & Nerve Supply
Extensor carpi radialis is a forearm muscle. It is located on the lateral side of the forearm, and it arises from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus. The muscle inserts onto the base of the second metacarpal bone.
Function:
Extensor carpi radialis extends (straightens) the wrist and abducts (moves away from the midline) the wrist.
Innervation:
Extensor carpi radialis is innervated by the posterior interosseous nerve (a branch of the radial nerve).
Blood supply:
Extensor carpi radialis is supplied by the posterior interosseous artery (a branch of the ulnar artery).
