Migraine vs. Headache: Understanding the Key Differences
Migraine headaches are distinct from typical headaches in several key ways:
Intensity and Duration: Migraines are often characterized by intense, debilitating pain that can last anywhere from 4 hours to several days.
Nausea and Vomiting: Many individuals experiencing migraines also experience nausea and vomiting.
Sensitivity to Light and Sound: People with migraines often have increased sensitivity to light and sound, known as photophobia and phonophobia, respectively.
Other Symptoms: Migraines can be accompanied by various other symptoms, including visual disturbances, such as flashes of light or blind spots, as well as tingling or numbness in the limbs.
On the other hand, headaches can range from mild to moderate intensity, last for a shorter period, and may or may not be accompanied by additional symptoms like nausea or sensitivity to light and sound.
