Anusol: Uses, Dosage, and Side Effects - A Comprehensive Guide
Anusol is a type of over-the-counter medication used to control itching and discomfort caused by conditions of the rectum, such as hemorrhoids. Anusol 's active ingredient is hydrocortisone and is available as a topical ointment or rectal suppository. If your symptoms worsen or don't go away after using Anusol for a week, contact your doctor about alternative treatments.
Instructions
Purchase Anusol from your local pharmacy. Most people will use the topical cream in lieu of the suppository unless otherwise directed by a physician. The topical cream should not be placed inside of the rectum.
Clean your rectum with soap and water prior to using the Anusol. Dry the area thoroughly before using Anusol. Your hands should be clean and dry as well before application.
Take a generous amount of the ointment and place it on your finger. Apply the medication in an even layer over the affected area of your rectum. Certain types of Anusol include a dispensing cap that you can insert at the base of your rectum in order to apply the medication. Wash your hands after you are finished applying the Anusol.
Repeat usage of Anusol throughout the day. As symptoms appear, you can apply more Anusol, but the manufacturer recommends that you do not exceed five doses a day.
