Prognosis for Renal Failure
Renal failure occurs in two forms: acute and chronic. Acute renal failure is reversible. Chronic renal failure, unfortunately, is not curable. However, the prognosis of chronic renal failure doesn̵7;t mean an instant death sentence.-
Symptoms
-
Some symptoms of chronic renal failure include dry skin, high or no urine output, itching and fatigue. Chronic renal failure develops so slowly, over months and years, that you may not notice symptoms.
End Stage Renal Disease
-
In the late stage, renal failure leads to end stage renal disease (ESRD). ESRD occurs when the kidneys cease to function properly.
Treatment
-
According to UAB Health System, people with renal failure, especially ESRD, are living longer than ever thanks to treatments like dialysis.
Dialysis
-
Dialysis involves the removal of waste products from the blood that the kidneys would normally eliminate.
Other Conditions
-
Renal failure can cause other conditions like anemia, nerve damage and bone disease, according to UAB Health System.
