Signs of Healthy Kidneys: What to Look For
Signs of healthy kidney function include:
- Clear urine with little to no odor
Normal urine is pale yellow and clear. It should have little or no odor and foam.
- Producing around 1 to 2 quarts (0.95 to 1.9 liters) of urine per day
This amount can vary depending on your activity level and fluid intake.
- Having a blood urea nitrogen (BUN) level between 10 and 20 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL)
BUN is a waste product that is produced when your body breaks down protein. The BUN level in your blood can rise if your kidneys are not working well.
- Having a creatinine level between 0.8 and 1.5 mg/dL
Creatinine is another waste product that is produced when your muscles break down. The creatinine level in your blood can rise if your kidneys are not working well.
- Not having kidney pain or back pain
Kidney pain or back pain can be a sign of a kidney problem, such as a kidney stone or kidney infection.
Please note that these are just some of the signs of healthy kidney function. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of kidney disease, it is important to see your doctor for a diagnosis.
