Why Does Feces Steam? Understanding the Causes
The steaming of human stool is caused by the release of gases during the decomposition of organic matter. These gases include methane, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and ammonia.
When stool comes into contact with air, the bacteria present in the stool start to break down the organic matter, releasing these gases. The heat from the body further increases the rate of decomposition, causing the stool to steam. In addition, the moisture content of stool can also contribute to steaming, as water vapor is released into the air.
