LeBoyer Method: Gentle Birth Techniques for Reduced Stress
LeBoyer Method - also referred to as gentle birth – focuses on reducing stress hormones during birth for both the birthing person and the newborn.
The principles that make the LeBoyer method unique include:
- Dim lights
- Quiet environment; music is played and voices are kept very low
- No talking/touching the newborn for about ten minutes
- Warm bath is given to the newborn in an atmosphere similar to the environment inside the womb - no bright lights, just natural sounds and voices, and very warm water
- No routine suction or cutting of the umbilical cord until delivery of the placenta
