Pseudocyesis in Transgender Women: Understanding False Pregnancies
A male-to-female transgender person (trans woman) cannot experience a false pregnancy. False pregnancies, also known as pseudocyesis, occur when a person who is not pregnant experiences physical and emotional symptoms that mimic those of pregnancy. These symptoms can include a swollen abdomen, breast tenderness, nausea, and weight gain.
Male-to-female transgender individuals do not have the reproductive organs necessary to become pregnant, including a uterus and ovaries. As a result, they cannot experience the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy, which are responsible for the symptoms of a false pregnancy.
