Ward Fever: Understanding Historical Cases of Trench Fever and Typhoid
Ward fever may refer to two distinct diseases:
- A variant of trench fever which was very serious during World War I, caused by Rochalimaea quintana spread by body lice which is associated with trench mouth, and was distinguished at the time to differentiate the more serious form of illness; or
- Another name for typhoid fever as described in an epidemic among British and Colonial troops during the Siege of Lucknow at the Cawnpore ward-hospital during the Indian Rebellion in 1857–58
