The Impact of Tropical Diseases on the Spanish-American War in Cuba
Devasting
Tropical diseases had a devastating impact on Spanish forces in Cuba. Yellow fever, malaria, dengue, and other diseases killed thousands of troops and incapacitated many more. The high mortality rate among Spanish soldiers led to a shortage of manpower, which in turn made it difficult for the Spanish to maintain control over the island. In addition, the diseases also spread to the local Cuban population, causing widespread death and suffering.
