Pathogens: Understanding Disease-Causing Microorganisms
A disease-causing microorganism is called a pathogen. Pathogens can be bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. They can cause disease by damaging cells, producing toxins, or triggering an immune response. Some common pathogens include:
