DIY Blue Ice Packs: A Simple & Cost-Effective Guide
Homemade blue ice is used in reusable ice packs. Instead of buying expensive ice packs from the store, making your own with ingredients you have on hand is a cost-effective solution. You can add blue food coloring for the traditional ice pack look or any color you desire. The blue ice packs are still soft when frozen, giving them a unique pliability and allowing them to conform to your body part.Things You'll Need
- Medium glass bowl with a spout
- Water
- Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol)
- Plastic mixing spoon
- Liquid food coloring
- Freezer quality plastic bags (1 gallon size for a large pack or 2 quart-size bags)
Instructions
Mix 3 cups of water with 1 cup of rubbing alcohol in a glass bowl with a spout.
Add 2 to 3 drops of liquid food coloring. Stir the mixture to combine.
Hold open one gallon-size plastic bag and slowly pour in the mixture. You can also make two quart-size packs. Partially seal the bag and then compress slowly to remove the air. Be careful to not allow any of the liquid to leak. Place the pack inside a second bag to prevent leaks. Remove the air from the second bag by compressing the bag gently.
Lay the bag flat in the freezer; allow at least 2 hours for the pack to get cold.
