Tay-Sachs Disease: Early Symptoms & Stages - A Comprehensive Overview
Early-onset Tay-Sachs disease appears in babies aged 6 months or younger. Common early signs include:
* Reduced eye movement
* Vision loss
* A "cherry red" spot developing in the center of the retina
* Slow development
* Decreased head growth (microcephaly)
Late-onset Tay-Sachs disease usually appears in childhood, but can appear as late as adolescence or early adulthood. In addition to the early signs of the disease, late-onset Tay-Sachs affects motor skills and leads to speech problems.
