Diagnosis: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Symptoms:
* Excessive worry and anxiety that is difficult to control
* Feeling restless, on edge, or keyed up
* Difficulty concentrating or mind going blank
* Being easily fatigued
* Difficulty sleeping
* Muscle tension or headaches
* Stomachaches or diarrhea
Treatment:
* Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to help patients identify and change negative thinking patterns and behaviors
* Relaxation training to help patients manage anxiety symptoms
* Medication, such as antidepressants or anti-anxiety medications, may be helpful for some patients
Prognosis:
GAD is a chronic disorder, but it can be effectively managed with treatment. With treatment, most people with GAD are able to live full and productive lives.
