Understanding Pre-Period & Post-Period Spotting: Causes & What to Expect
Spotting pinkish-brown discharge two weeks before and for a few days after your period can have several different causes. Some of these causes can include:
- Implantation bleeding: This occurs when a fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus. It can happen around 10-14 days after ovulation and usually lasts for a few days. Implantation bleeding is typically lighter than a regular period and may be accompanied by mild cramps.
- Ovulation spotting: This occurs when a mature egg is released from the ovary. It can happen around day 14 of a 28-day cycle and may cause light spotting or bleeding. Ovulation spotting is usually short-lived and does not require treatment.
- Hormonal changes: Changes in hormone levels, such as those that occur during pregnancy or menopause, can cause spotting or irregular bleeding.
- Medical conditions: Some medical conditions, such as uterine polyps, fibroids, or certain types of cancer, can cause spotting or irregular bleeding.
If you are experiencing spotting pinkish-brown discharge and are concerned about the cause, it is always best to talk to your doctor for evaluation and diagnosis.
