Menopause Symptoms: Understanding What to Expect
Menopause is the time in a woman's life when menstruation permanently stops. It usually occurs between the ages of 45 and 55. The following are some signs or symptoms of menopause:
- Vasomotor symptoms: Hot flashes, night sweats, chills, and blushing
- Menstrual irregularities: Longer or shorter menstrual cycles, heavier or lighter menstrual bleeding, spotting between periods
- Sleep problems: Difficulty falling or staying asleep, frequent awakenings
- Mood changes: Irritability, anxiety, low mood, depressed feelings
- Vaginal and urinary changes: Vaginal dryness, burning, itching or pain during sex, recurring urinary tract infections, bladder urgency/incontinence
- Skin and hair changes: Dry skin, wrinkles, thinning hair or hair loss
- Other symptoms: Joint pain, muscle aches, headaches, fatigue, decreased libido
It's important to note that not all women will experience all of these symptoms, and the severity of symptoms can vary from person to person. If you're experiencing symptoms of menopause and they are significantly impacting your daily life, it's a good idea to talk to your doctor.
