Is it bad if your period last for two weeks?
Menstrual periods that last more than seven days are considered prolonged or abnormal and may be a sign of an underlying medical condition. This is known as menorrhagia.
Many factors can cause menorrhagia, including:
- Pregnancy
- Hormonal imbalances
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Adenomyosis
- Endometriosis
- Fibroids
- Noncancerous growths (such as polyps) in the uterus or cervix
- Certain types of cancer, such as uterine or cervical cancer
- Medications, including oral contraceptives, some anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain types of chemotherapy
If your period lasts for two weeks or more, you should talk to your doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions. Your doctor may recommend tests such as a pelvic exam, blood tests, or an ultrasound to determine the cause of your abnormal bleeding. Once the cause is identified, appropriate treatment can be started.
