Testosterone is a naturally occurring hormone that mostly occurs in men, though female bodies produce it too. Deficiencies in testosterone can inhibit the sex lives and energy levels of men and women. Testosterone injections can help correct this deficiency.

Men

• Men with deficiencies of testosterone can experience delayed puberty and impotence. Testosterone injections can correct this.

Women

• Women with a lack of a sex drive, exhaustion and depression can benefit from testosterone injections. However, testosterone levels should be monitored carefully in order for women to avoid many of the side effects of testosterone injections.

Side Effects

• Side effects of testosterone are weight gain, swelling, erections, pains, confusion, thirst, weakness, increased urination and nausea. Women also experience acne and baldness.

Warning

• Testosterone injections should not be given to those who have prostate cancer or breast cancer. There are also individuals who have allergic reactions to hormones and should not have testosterone shots.

• Women who are pregnant should not receive a testosterone injection. Birth control or abstinence should be used during testosterone injections.
