Understanding AIDS Treatment Options: Medications & Therapy
Medications and emotional therapy are the only two treatments for AIDS patients. There are four types of medication treatments that an AIDS patient can benefit from. These treatments have proved to work amazingly well in most AIDS sufferers.-
Nonnucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors
-
These inhibitors are designed to block proteins that AIDS needs to reproduce. Delavirdine, Efavirenz and Nevirapine are some types of this medication.
Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitors
-
These inhibitors are fake building blocks that the cells of AIDS uses to multiply itself. This treatment can cause the growth of AIDS to stall. Abacavir, Didanosine, Lamivudine and Tenofovir are some common medications of this type.
Protease Inhibitors
-
Protease inhibitors cause protease, an important protein that AIDS uses to reproduce itself, to become disabled. Atazanavir, Lopinavir and Ritonavir are some types of this medication.
Fusion Inhibitors
-
This is the newest form of AIDS treatments. This medication is designed to block the entry of AIDS into clean cells. This medication is called Enfuvirtide.
Emotional Therapy
-
Many AIDS patients suffer from stress and depression. These patients can join groups, attend seminars, reach out to others and speak with counselors on a routine basis in order to defeat their emotional problems.
