Why is World Aids Day celebrated?

World Aids Day on 1st December every year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) caused by the spread of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. World Aids Day is one of the eleven officially recognized global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO).
