How to Calibrate an OMRON HEM-780
Referred to as "the silent killer" by the American Heart Association, high blood pressure damages your arteries, heart and other organs without symptoms. If you are diagnosed with high blood pressure, you may be asked to monitor your blood pressure at home. Home blood pressure monitors such as the OMRON HEM-780 can be a great tool for tracking your health, but it is important to use them properly to ensure accurate results.Things You'll Need
- 4 AA batteries or AC adapter
- Proper size cuff
Instructions
Take your first blood pressure reading with your OMRON HEM-780 just before your doctor takes it in his or her office. Wait two to three minutes between readings to allow your arteries to return to normal. Your numbers may not match your doctor's exactly, but you can see how far off your monitor is from a professional reading.
Avoid eating, smoking or taking a bath for at least 30 minutes before testing your blood pressure with your OMRON HEM-780. These activities can affect the dilation or constriction of your arteries, which can give you an inaccurate reading.
Sit in a chair with your feet flat on the floor and your arms resting at heart level to ensure the most accurate results.
Take the batteries out and restart your monitor if it does not start at zero. If the problem continues, contact the manufacturer, because the unit may need to be replaced.
Follow the instructions for your OMRON HEM-780; not doing so can give you inaccurate readings.
