Understanding Blood Pressure: Systolic & Diastolic Explained
There are two main types of blood pressure:
1. Systolic blood pressure: This is the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats and pumps blood out to the body.
2. Diastolic blood pressure: This is the pressure in the arteries when the heart relaxes and refills with blood.
Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). A normal blood pressure is considered to be less than 120/80 mmHg. High blood pressure is defined as a systolic pressure of 130 mmHg or higher, or a diastolic pressure of 80 mmHg or higher.
