Denavir (Raltegravir): Uses, Side Effects & Dosage
Denavir is a prescription-only cream used to treat recurrent cold sores caused by the herpes simplex Type 1 virus. Cold sores typically occur on the lips and face, causing tingling and pain that may progress to blisters and may take up to two weeks to heal. The herpes simplex virus is contagious from the first tingling sensation until several days after the cold sore has healed. Denavir works by attacking the herpes simplex virus and may be used at any stage of cold sore development. However, Denavir is not indicated to prevent the spread of the virus to others or to prevent cold sore outbreaks.
Instructions
Wash and dry your face and hands before applying Denavir.
Apply a thin layer of Denavir to areas affected by cold sores with your finger or a clean cotton swab. Avoid applying Denavir to unaffected areas of the skin.
Massage Denavir gently into cold sores until cream disappears into skin.
Wash hands thoroughly after each Denavir application. Discard cotton swab after each use.
Repeat Steps 1 through 4 every two hours during waking hours for four days, or as directed by your doctor.
Continue to use Denavir regularly for the length of time directed by your doctor, even if your symptoms disappear.
