It is generally believed that you cannot get herpes from someone who does not have it. Herpes is a viral infection caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV). The virus is spread through direct contact with an infected person's sores or through contact with infected bodily fluids, such as semen or vaginal fluid. If someone does not have herpes, they cannot transmit the virus to you.
