Scabies in Children: Transmission, Symptoms & Prevention
Scabies is a contagious skin condition caused by tiny mites that burrow under the skin. It is spread through close physical contact with an infected person or by sharing personal items such as clothing, bedding, or towels.
Playing together is a common way for children to spread scabies to each other. If your daughter has been playing with a girl who has scabies, there is a chance that she could get scabies as well.
The symptoms of scabies include:
* Intense itching, especially at night
* Small, red bumps or blisters on the skin
* Sores or scabs from scratching
* Lines or burrows on the skin where the mites have burrowed
If your daughter has any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor to get diagnosed and treated for scabies.
To prevent scabies from spreading, it is important to:
* Avoid close contact with people who have scabies.
* Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
* Keep your fingernails short and clean.
* Do not share personal items such as clothing, bedding, or towels.
* Wash all clothing, bedding, and towels in hot water and dry them on high heat.
If you think your daughter may have scabies, it is important to see a doctor right away to get diagnosed and treated.
