Scalp Herpes: Symptoms, Causes, and Treatment

Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is the most common cause of oral herpes, also known as cold sores. It can also cause infections on the scalp, although this is less common. Symptoms of scalp herpes may include:

- Blisters or sores on the scalp

- Itching or pain on the scalp

- Crusting or scabbing on the scalp

- Fever

- Swollen lymph nodes

Treatment for scalp herpes typically involves antiviral medications, such as acyclovir, valacyclovir, or famciclovir. These medications can be taken orally or applied topically to the affected area. In some cases, hospitalization may be necessary if the infection is severe.
