The most common way people get herpes is through skin-to-skin contact with someone infected with the virus. This can happen during vaginal, anal, or oral sex, or through sharing sex toys or other objects that have come into contact with the virus. Herpes can also be spread from an infected mother to her newborn baby during childbirth.
