Understanding Herpes: Stages, Symptoms & Management
Herpes is sexually transmitted disease. In the United States, more than 45 million people have the disease. Though the disease is not fatal, there is currently no cure.-
Outbreaks

Herpes appear in outbreaks. In general, an affected person will have four to six outbreaks per year. When herpes outbreaks develop, they generally appear in multiple stages.
First Stage

When a herpes outbreak begins, the affected area is usually red and sore and itchy to the touch. It will then begin to swell.
Blistering
-
One to many blisters will form on the red area. These blisters will be filled with fluid that is either white, red or clear.
Ulcers
-
When the top of the blister is removed, ulcers will appear. These sores will be painful and tender.
Scab
-
The sores will dry up in this final stage. New skin will grow underneath these scabs and eventually, the site will heal.
