Hepatitis B Immunoglobulin (HBIG) Dosage: Recommended by Health Canada & WHO
1. Health Canada recommends a 0.5 mL dose of hepatitis B immunoglobulin for the following individuals:* Infants born to mothers who are hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive
* Close contacts of persons who are HBsAg-positive, including household contacts, sexual partners, and healthcare workers who have had a needlestick injury or other exposure to infected blood or body fluids
2. The World Health Organization (WHO) also recommends a 0.5 mL dose of hepatitis B immunoglobulin for the following individuals:
* Infants born to mothers who are HBsAg-positive or whose hepatitis B status is unknown
* Close contacts of persons who are HBsAg-positive, including household contacts, sexual partners, and healthcare workers who have had a needlestick injury or other exposure to infected blood or body fluids
3. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States recommends a 0.5 mL dose of hepatitis B immunoglobulin for the following individuals:
* Infants born to mothers who are HBsAg-positive
* Close contacts of persons who are HBsAg-positive, including household contacts, sexual partners, and healthcare workers who have had a needlestick injury or other exposure to infected blood or body fluids
* Travelers who are visiting countries where hepatitis B is endemic
