Understanding Left Ventricular Thickening: Causes & Significance
Normal left ventricular wall thickness:
* Men: < 1.4 cm (0.55 inches)
* Women: < 1.2 cm (0.47 inches)
Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is defined as an increase in the thickness of the left ventricular wall beyond these normal values. LVH is a common finding in people with high blood pressure, diabetes, and other chronic medical conditions. It is also associated with an increased risk of heart disease and death.
