It is normal to pass the mucus plug in the days or hours leading up to labor. Some people may pass their mucus plug weeks or days before labor starts. However, if you are more than 39 weeks pregnant, have passed the mucus plug, and have any other signs of labor such as contractions or pain in the back, abdomen, or pelvis, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately.
