Heart Palpitations Causes & Risk Factors
Heart palpitations occur when the heartbeat suddenly speeds up. The person suffering palpitations may feel his heart has skipped a beat or is racing, but in some cases the heart rate may still be within a normal range. There are several causes and risk factors that can lead to heart palpitations.-
Medications

Thyroid drugs, asthma pills and inhalers, beta-blockers, and pills used to treat abnormal heart rhythm can all cause heart palpitations.
Stimulants

Stimulants such as caffeine, cocaine, nicotine, and over-the-counter or prescription diet pills can also create heart palpitations.
Exercise

Exercising can cause palpitations. Remember that sometimes heart palpitations are felt outside the chest, such as in the throat or neck.
Medical Conditions

Those with medical conditions such as heart disease, anemia, or overactive thyroid are at greater risk for palpitations.
Emotional Factors

Anxiety, stress, and hyperventilation are all causes and risk factors for heart palpitations.
