Parakeet Heart Rate: Understanding Normal & When to Worry
Parakeets, also known as budgerigars, have a naturally fast heart rate. Their hearts can beat between 120 to 200 beats per minute (bpm) even when they are at rest. This high heart rate is normal for parakeets and is not a cause for concern.
Factors such as excitement, stress, or physical exertion can cause a parakeet's heart rate to increase temporarily. However, if you notice that your parakeet's heart rate remains consistently high or is accompanied by other symptoms such as lethargy, difficulty breathing, or loss of appetite, it's important to consult an avian veterinarian for a checkup to rule out any underlying health issues.
