How to Accurately Measure Your Heart Rate: A Simple Guide
1. Locate your pulse. You can find your pulse by:
* Placing two fingers on your wrist where you feel your ulnar artery pulsing.
* Placing two or three fingers on your neck to the side of your windpipe.
* Placing two fingers on the inside of your elbow joint.
2. Count your pulse for 15 seconds.
3. Multiply the number you get by 4 to get your heart rate per minute.
For example, if you count 22 pulses in 15 seconds, your heart rate is 88 beats per minute (22 x 4 = 88).
Tips for getting an accurate heart rate:
* Make sure you are sitting still and relaxed when you take your pulse.
* Breathe normally.
* Don't talk or move while you are taking your pulse.
* If you have an irregular heartbeat, it may be helpful to take your pulse for 30 seconds and then divide that number by 2 to get your heart rate per minute.
Normal heart rate ranges:
* Adults: 60–100 beats per minute
* Children: 70–110 beats per minute
* Infants: 100–140 beats per minute
