Early Pregnancy Symptoms: Headaches & Swollen Feet - What to Know
Headache
Headache is a common symptom during early pregnancy, affecting up to 50% of pregnant women. It is usually described as a dull, aching pain that can occur anywhere in the head. Hormonal changes, increased blood volume, and stress are all thought to contribute to pregnancy-related headaches. Headaches that are sudden, severe, or accompanied by other symptoms such as vision changes, nausea, or vomiting should be evaluated by a doctor.
Swelling (edema)
Swelling in the feet, hands, and face is another common symptom of pregnancy, especially in the later stages. It occurs as a result of increased fluid retention, which is caused by hormonal changes and the increased pressure of the growing uterus on the veins. Swelling that is severe or sudden should be evaluated by a doctor, as it can be a sign of a medical condition such as preeclampsia.
Here are some additional symptoms that may be associated with pregnancy:
* Missed period
* Breast tenderness
* Nausea and vomiting (morning sickness)
* Fatigue
* Frequent urination
* Constipation
* Bloating
* Mood swings
It is important to note that these symptoms can also be caused by other medical conditions, so it is always best to see a doctor for an evaluation if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.
