Sebaceous Glands & Hair Follicles: Function & Location

The glands connected to the hair follicles are the sebaceous glands. Sebaceous glands are small, grape-like structures that secrete an oily substance called sebum. Sebum helps to keep the hair and scalp moist and prevents the hair from becoming dry and brittle. Sebaceous glands are also found on other parts of the body, such as the face, neck, and back.
