Is it ok to wear hair extensions in surgery?
It is generally not advisable to wear hair extensions during surgery. There are a few reasons for this:
1. Risk of infection: Hair extensions can harbor bacteria and other microorganisms, which can increase the risk of infection. This is especially important during surgery, when the body is more vulnerable to infection.
2. Interference with surgery: Hair extensions can interfere with the surgical team's ability to access and operate on the surgical site. This can lead to complications and delays in the surgery.
3. Fire risk: Hair extensions are often made of synthetic materials that can be flammable. This can pose a fire risk during surgery, especially if cautery or other electrical equipment is being used.
For these reasons, it is best to remove hair extensions before surgery and wait until after the surgery to put them back in.
