Chemotherapy & Radiation Therapy: Impact on Knee Synovial Fluid

Chemo can cause damage to the healthy cells lining the synovial cavity. This can lead to synovitis, joint pain, and swelling. Radiation therapy can also lead to synovitis. These types of treatments can change how cells act and can cause damage (for example, by interfering with the production of hyaluronic acid or other synovial fluids) that leads to synovial fluid loss.
