Understanding Period Skipping: Methods & Considerations
A woman may choose to skip her period while traveling or on her honeymoon to reduce the stress of managing a period and its side effects. Some women also may choose to skip it to stay sexually active. Women on birth-control pills can skip their periods by not taking the last week of their birth-control packets.
Instructions
Obtain a prescription for monophasic birth-control pills from a health care provider. Examples of monophasic pills include Yasmin, Ortho-Cyclen and Zovia. Ask to be put on a low dose. According to NoPeriod.com, birth control pills containing 20 mcg of estrogen is considered ideal for skipping periods.
Take the birth control pill every day as prescribed for three weeks. Set a time every day to take it, such as 7 every morning. Its effectiveness can lessen if it is not taken at the same time every day.
Start the new package of pills on the fourth week. Do not take the seven remaining pills in the current packet--they do not contain hormones, and can trigger a period. Continue taking it every day as prescribed, skipping the last week of pills to continuously prevent your period.
