Inner Cell Mass: Understanding the Embryonic Development Stage

The inner portion of the zygote that implants in the uterine lining is called the inner cell mass. It is also known as the embryoblast. The inner cell mass gives rise to the embryo, while the outer layer of cells, known as the trophoblast, develops into the placenta.
