Head Lice Survival: How Long Can They Live Off a Head?

Head lice cannot survive off the human head for longer than 48 hours. They may be able to survive for up to 24 hours at room temperature, but their survival rate decreases significantly after that. At temperatures below freezing, head lice can survive for about a week.
