When to See a Doctor for a Sinus Infection
Most sinus infections go away on their own within 10 to 14 days. However, you should see a doctor if:
* Your symptoms are severe or don't improve after 10 days
* You have a fever of 102 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
* You have pain or swelling around your eyes
* You have drainage from your nose that is bloody or yellow-green
* You have a headache that is severe or doesn't go away with over-the-counter pain relievers
* You have difficulty breathing or swallowing
* You have a weakened immune system or other medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or HIV/AIDS
* You are pregnant.
In addition to these symptoms, you should also see a doctor if you have a sinus infection and any of the following:
* You are pregnant
* You have a history of sinus infections
* You have an underlying medical condition, such as diabetes or a heart condition
* You are on steroids or other medications that can weaken your immune system
