Syphilis Risk Factors: Who is Most Vulnerable?
Anyone can get syphilis but there certain characteristics that make someone more prone to contracting the infection. These include:
- Having multiple sexual partners
- Not using condoms during sex
- Engaging in unprotected sex with someone who is infected with syphilis
- Being a man who has sex with men (MSM)
- Being pregnant
- Having a history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Having a weakened immune system, such as from HIV infection
