Understanding Floppy Head Syndrome in Infants: Causes & Conditions
Congenital causes:
- Myelomeningocele: neural tube defect in which part of the spinal cord and meninges protrude through an opening in the back
- Hydrocephalus: excess accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the ventricles of the brain
- Arnold-Chiari malformation: structural abnormality in which the lower part of the brain (the cerebellum) extends into the spinal canal
- Dandy-Walker malformation: brain malformation characterized by the absence or underdevelopment of the cerebellar vermis (the central part of the cerebellum) and enlargement of the fourth ventricle (fluid-filled space in the brain)
Postnatal Causes:
- Meningitis and Encephalitis
- Head Trauma
- Lead Poisoning
- Certain Genetic Disorders
- Malnutrition
