Fixing Broken Eyeglass Spring Hinges: A Simple DIY Guide
Spring hinges on eyeglass frames prevent the frame from stretching but the hinges need maintenance from time to time. After a while, the constant opening and closing of the bow causes the hinge to overextend. Fix the broken spring hinge of the temple, or bow, of an eyeglass frame in a few simple steps with items you have around the house.Things You'll Need
- Household lubricant
- Screwdriver
- Washcloth
- Dish soap
- Magnifying glass
Instructions
Hold the frame so the temple, or bow, with the loose hinge is open and overextended. Cover your lenses with a small hand towel or wash cloth to keep oil from getting on your lenses.
Spray or drip a small amount of oil into and around the hinge. Open and close the temple a few times to work the oil into the spring hinge.
Wash the frame with dish soap and water to remove excess oil. Dry the frame with the washcloth.
