A doctor (especially an ophthalmologist) can dilate one of your eyes during an eye exam, using special eye drops. After waiting while the drops take effect, the doctor can then see the structure of the optic disc or optic nerve head of your eye—an anatomical feature directly associated with the blind spot of vision, and visible at the back of the eye.
