Shingles in the Eye: Risks, Symptoms & Treatment
In rare cases, shingles can cause serious complications, including vision loss if the infection spreads to the eye (ophthalmic zoster). Untreated shingles of the eye can lead to inflammation of the cornea (keratitis), which is the transparent, protective outer layer of the eye. If left untreated, shingles of the eye can cause scarring of the cornea and permanent vision loss.
It's important to see an eye doctor as soon as possible if you think you may have shingles in your eye. Early diagnosis and treatment can help to prevent serious complications.
