How to Repair Scratches in Transitions Lenses

Photochromic lenses darken in sunlight. This technology is owned by Transition Optical. Most eyecare professionals refer to all photochromic lenses as transition lenses. These lenses reduce the need for sunglasses because they adjust to light conditions, turning from clear to dark in moments. Transitions are produced using plastic, polycarbonate and other synthetic materials. If they develop scratches, repair them using household products.

• Microfiber cloths
• Carnauba wax
• Grease pencil, white

  Clean the lens by buffing it with a microfiber cloth. Avoid using tissue, which may scratch the lens.

  Draw around the perimeter of the scratch using a grease pencil.

  Rub the pencil mark into the scratch using a circular motion. This heats and spreads the grease, filling the scratch. Polish the surface of the lens until it is clean.

  Apply a drop of carnauba wax the size of a pencil eraser to the scratch. Press the wax into the scratch. This fills the indentation, making the scratch less noticeable.

  Buff the surface of the lens.
