Post-Laser Eye Surgery Recovery: Healing & Care Guide
Laser surgery has revolutionized the way that eye operations are done. Known as Lasik, the procedure is performed by a doctor using a laser. Although by definition the surgery is invasive, it can be done in an outpatient setting. The eye heals much faster than was the case with prior types of eye surgery. Home procedures also aid in the healing process.Things You'll Need
- Artificial tears
- Sleeping mask
- Swimming goggles
- Headband
- Antibiotic
- Anti-inflammatory eye drops
Instructions
Put on the sleeping mask after you get home to keep the eye closed.
Sleep for four to six hours. Stay in bed wearing the sleeping mask until this time has passed, even if you can't fall asleep.
Take the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops as prescribed by your doctor.
During the course of the day, lubricate the eye with the artificial tears solution. Continue lubricating the eye every couple of hours, even if the eye doesn't feel dry or irritated.
Wear the swimming goggles while bathing to keep water from getting directly into the eye.
Avoid strenuous activities that could cause sweat to drip into the eye. Wear a headband to keep loose hairs from falling into the eye and irritating it.
