Understanding Alcohol's Effects: Acute & Chronic Impacts
There are three types of alcoholic effects:
1. Acute alcohol effects are the immediate effects of drinking alcohol. These effects can include slurred speech, impaired coordination, and decreased judgment. Acute alcohol effects can also lead to alcohol poisoning, which can be fatal.
2. Chronic alcohol effects are the long-term effects of drinking alcohol. These effects can include liver damage, heart disease, and cancer. Chronic alcohol effects can also lead to addiction, which is a chronic, relapsing brain disease.
3. Fetal alcohol effects are the effects of alcohol on a developing fetus. Fetal alcohol effects can include physical, mental, and behavioral problems. Fetal alcohol effects can be lifelong and can range from mild to severe.
